Representative Dina Titus Visits the AWFS®Fair

Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-NV-1) came to the AWFS Fair on Friday afternoon, July 19 to learn more about the woodworking industry; see machinery and exhibitors first-hand; and broadcast congratulations to the students at the Fresh Wood and Turning to the Future awards ceremony.

Rep. Titus spent 40 minutes touring the show floor, where she got a brief overview about current machinery that is being used, such as CNC routers and robotics, as well as advancements in supplies and hardware. Following the tour, she attended the student award ceremony, where she spoke to students, teachers and attendees about the importance of Career Technical Education and the manufacturing industry in Las Vegas, and she witnessed the announcement of the Fresh Wood Best of Show winner. In an unexpected moment, everyone was pleased when she returned to the stage to take a picture with the Best of Show winner…what a memory for the student! She was also presented with a plaque from the AWFS Fair by constituent and AWFS Public Policy Committee Member John Henderson in appreciation for her longstanding support of Career Technical Education.

Congresswoman Titus’ attendance was a result of our developing relationship with her office through AWFS DC fly-ins and advocacy efforts focused on Career Technical Education and skilled workforce development. We hope to invite her to a local event at a manufacturing company in the near future, and see her again at our DC fly-in in early 2020.
