Are you an entrepreneur or do you know of any entrepreneurs? Have you heard of NFTE (Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship)? This is an organization that provides valuable leadership skills for students, particularly focusing on urban youth. They need volunteers (entrepreneurs/small business owners ideally) to serve as mentors judges for their student events. This is not “build” contests like SkillsUSA, more like the TV show “Shark Tank” where the students present a product concept and the judges help them refine it. If the judges like the idea, there is opportunity for students to win funding, etc. A local (Southern California) high school student won the National competition in 2018 and now she has launched her own company with her winning product design. Watch her pitch here. NFTE programs are concentrated in central and south central LA high schools, so if you are in that area and feel a calling to help, please contact Adria to learn more. adria@awfs.org or (323) 215-0311 (direct)
