MFG Day 2020: New Look and Options, Plan Your Event!

MFG Day 2020: New Logo and Website!

Emphasis on Virtual Events

Are you planning a MFG Day 2020 event? MFG Day is a campaign developed by National Association of Manufacturers/Manufacturing Institute (NAM/MI) to promote careers in manufacturing. The official MFG Day is Friday, October 2, 2020, however events can be scheduled for any time in the month of October – or even throughout the year!

MFG Day encourages companies to open their doors and welcome students, teachers, and the general public inside for shop tours and presentations about the manufacturing industry.

Many companies within the wood industry have hosted MFG Day events in previous years, including: Stiles Machinery; Blum, Inc; JB Cutting; Architectural Woodworking Company (Los Angeles); Reborn Cabinets; Drawer Box Specialties; Veneer Technologies; Maple Landmark; Mastercam; Super Thin Saws; Timberlane; and Sauder Woodworking among others.

Companies can customize their own event to meet their needs and capabilities, but events typically include a plant tour and presentation about careers within the industry. Companies can also control how many students/schools are invited to the event — it can be a public event or private/restricted, the latter is usually the case if the company is coordinating directly with a local school or district. Either way, it is encouraged to list the event on the MFG Day website to support the campaign. This year, Manufacturing Institute has introduced a new logo for MFG Day and a new website for listing and finding events.

If you would like to host an event, check out this webinar on how to get started.

Many schools throughout the country will still be delivering remote learning to their students in the fall semester, so virtual events are strongly encouraged.

This makes it much easier for manufacturers — no need to plan for a physical, in person event, but certainly keep in mind the unique considerations of virtual event engagement. This also opens up events to a much larger audience – rather than just reaching students in your local district, students throughout the country can log in (if you choose to allow it).

Please consider participating in MFG Day, it’s an important and relatively easy way to introduce students to your company and to careers in the wood industry!
