AWFS Volunteer Receives ‘Spirit of Service’ Award

AWFS Board member and active volunteer Karl Frey (Colonial Saw/Lammello) was honored at the AWFS Annual Member Meeting on July 25, 2023 with the AWFS “Saúl Martín Spirit of Service Award“. Karl received this award because of his ongoing commitment to supporting industry education efforts.

“Karl always shows up to MFG Day events, he helps with SkillsUSA student woodworking contests, and he represents SWM (Society of Wood Manufacturing) at education outreach events”, says AWFS EVP Angelo Gangone. “He is also the AWFS Education Committee Chair and active in the AWFS Public Policy Committee, where our focus is on legislation that supports Career Technical Education (CTE) and workforce development. There are few folks that are as engaged and committed as Karl, and he is very deserving of this award.”

The award consists of a glass “flame” and the inscription reads: “With the utmost gratitude for your dedication and outstanding support.” The award is given when there is a worthy recipient, not necessarily every year. The first award was given to Saúl Martín in 2019, who is also a strong supporter of industry education, SkillsUSA, and MFG Day events.
