SWM Starts 2022 off with Activities and Events

The Society of Wood Manufacturing (SWM) is AWFS’ Southern California chapter focused on connecting local schools with industry professionals. SWM has started out 2022 with some exciting events and activities:

SWM members at the Street Tree Revival networking event.

SkillsUSA California Regional Contests: In California, students compete at the regional level to determine who will advance to the State Conference. SWM developed the project plans for the Cabinetmaking and Introductory Woodworking contests, and SWM members volunteered to judge the contests. This year, the contests were remote, students built their project at their school and submitted a video for judges to review. Stay tuned for a full recap of the 2022 SkillsUSA CA competitive season in May.

SWM members at the April 3 LA Dodgers v LA Angels game.

Street Tree Revival Networking Event: In February, SWM attended a networking dinner at a local urban wood organization and provided dinner. Read more about the event here.

Tri-Cities ROP Career Tech Ed Virtual Event: SWM President Saúl Martín participated in this event where he talked about his career to students from three different schools. Read more about this event here.

LA Angels v LA Dodgers Baseball Game: In April, SWM attended the Dodgers @ Angels exposition game as their annual group baseball game. The SWM crowd is a mix of fans from both teams, so half of the group was happy about the outcome (Angels won 5-1).

Upcoming Events:
