The National Association of Manufacturers announced that it has “launched the Manufacturers’ Center for Legal Action, an effort to significantly amplify the voice of manufacturers in the courts on behalf of the 12 million men and women who make things in the United States. The Manufacturers’ Center for Legal Action will strategically engage in litigation as a direct party, intervene in litigation important to our 12,000 members and weigh in as amicus curiae on important cases. It will also engage the media and educate the general public on the important legal issues confronting manufacturers.” It “will be housed in a newly created legal division led by Linda Kelly, the new NAM general counsel. Under Kelly, the division will also be staffed by two deputy general counsels: Patrick Forrest and Quentin Riegel.” Kelly said, “Effective advocacy is no longer limited to simply wearing out shoe leather in the halls of Congress. A robust legal program that pushes back on regulatory overreach and represents our members’ interests in the courts is a critical element of our advocacy efforts.” Kelly added, “For manufacturers, litigation can make the difference between winning and losing on policies that affect their viability. As government agencies and the Administration take advantage of congressional impasse to pursue an aggressive regulatory agenda, we will be there to fight for manufacturers in the courts.”
